ID-Gene ecodiagnostics, startup based at Campus Biotech Innovation Park,is specialized in water quality monitoring of humanly impacted environments and in the detection of species using environmental DNA.

ID-Gene is redirecting a part of its activity to the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 in wastewaters. Recent studies showed that SARS-CoV-2 could spread in wastewaters and could be detected in the water arriving in wastewaters treatment plants. Moreover, the quantity of virus seemed to be correlated with the number of infection cases reported in the region. Eventually, the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 in wastewaters could represent an efficient tool for pandemic surveillance and early-warning. ID-Gene is setting up a robust methodology for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in its laboratory in order to be ready for virus surveillance in the post-pandemic era.

The project is led by Prof. Jan Pawlowski andDr Florian Mauffrey (florian.mauffrey@id-gene.com), specialist in molecular biology and microbiology.
