Abstract

Numbers have always fascinated mankind by their mysterious nature and their omnipresence in our daily lives. Some are tangible, like integers, others, like π or √2 are more elusive even if we can easily represent them physically. Still others continue to intrigue mathematical researchers and are at the heart of current research. From their discovery by the Swiss mathematician and physicist Leonhard Euler in the 18th century to their mysterious reappearance at the heart of particle physics in the 20th century, this talk will plunge you into the world of zeta values, intriguing numbers appearing in a variety of seemingly far-flung fields.

The talk will be followed by a discussion with Francesco Riva, Professor of Physics at the University of Geneva and creator of the Tutti Quantum game, during which the audience will be invited to ask questions.
